Analysis of Film Trailers

The trailer starts by showing us a red warning screen with the films classifications rating on it. This already inspires fear as it shows that the trailer will be scary and therefore the movie will be scary.

Lighting- It's darkly lit all throughout which gives an omnious tone. Simple lights such as lamps and lightbulbs gives a sense of abandonment and lonliness.
Audience- The audience here are teenagers or adults as the classification is high.
Tone- Danger, evil.
Dialouge- The dialogue is made up of whispering, whimpering and screaming as they are symbolised to be in danger and to be scared.
Camera angles- The first shot is of a cabin in the woods which is another typical plot within Horror movies.
Focus is often lost and gained creating the feeling that its all being filmed by another invisible character despite high-tec equipment.  There are flashes of evil things happening such as monsters being revealed. A big technique used is the use of shot , black out, shot black out which scares the audience as anything could pop up on the screen. There is a chase sequence in which the camera is used as if it is the chaser of a girl who looks tired and terrified.  The cabin is wooden and unstable which mirrors the possible plot line although were only 11 seconds in to the trailer. The colours seem to centre on red and black which are both colours associated with danger and terror.
Tension- The tension builds then descends then builds again towards the end. It seems to diffuse but then ramps up again to symbolise danger.
Music- There is the sound of wind in the woods and a thunder storm. A thunder storm represents danger because its unpredictable. It's also very typical of Horror movies to set the scene as dark and gloomy. The creaking door represents fear as its unerving and anyone could enter a door. There are loud precussion instruments being banged repetitively to symbolise a heartbeat.
Producer- All throughout, references are made to the producers , writers and directors meaning that
directors have Star quality.
Edits-  Many of the edits are either straight cuts or blackouts which add fear as the audience do not know what might happen in the next scene.
Actors- actors are made up to be scared looking, ill and sweating which symbolises fear.
Institutions- FilmDistrict, Ghost House Pictures, Sony Pictures Entertainment (SPE

Lighting-This trailer differs slightly as it starts positively and so it adds fear as it installs the belief that it could happen to anyone. When the group arrive in the cabin, the atmosphere appears to change as it darkens within the cabin. The lighting stays dark in order to sustain tension and fear.
Audience-The audience here are teenagers or young adults such as the ones in the film as the values of the teenagers such as partying, going on holiday and sexual references are that of young people.
Tone-The tone begins positive but quickly turns to negative when small references are given that there is a possibility of danger.
Dialouge- As there is a lot of characters, there is a lot of confusion so it goes against the typical as there appears to be a lot of shouting and fighting as they panic. Also, diegetic sounds such crying, screaming and whimpering are key convention in Horror Movie Trailers.
Camera angles-There are a lot of group shots as its set within a group. As in all horror movie trailers, there are a range of close ups, varying from extreme close ups to normal ones. A range of shots adds a reality to the trailer as its often how we see life. Tracking shots add an unseen character and a sense of realism.
Tension-The tension builds and drops throughout the trailer and it gets bigger towards the end.
Producer-  Like in many horror movies, it is explicitly shown that producers and  directors have Star Quality and will bring more revenue to the film.
Edits-  As soon as the plot is revealed, the cuts become quicker and paced faster. Like most horror movie trailers, it doesn't follow a linear sequence.
Actors- The actors start off looking good and then become covered in blood and scared.
